Not only was I denied actually creating a financial plan, they really just jumped into selling me insurance. When I contacted my representative to cancel my policy, he instead try to sell to me again and finally make a financial plan (definitely too late for that). I was still charged for the policy an entire month after (without my consent), and when I brought this up and demanded they give me a refund all he did was send me a form to sign (which did cancel my policy, but he gave no instructions or clarification on my refund) and has not answered any of my emails requesting information about my refund. You are better off burying your money in a ditch and letting it devalue than giving it to these people. *edited to add, that I just realized that I left this review under the nevada location, but my issue was not with their location specifically.

I had unknown number calls. I googled and found out it was was Dennis CL Huang team. I have 2 term life insurance with them, and 1 about expire in couple of years and another one in 5 years. So I asked to call me back, I may be interested. Then realized I didn't want to be solicited. Called to left message not to call. I will call when I am ready. Dennis call me couple times anyway. I texted politely not to call me, thank you. That's when Dennis text me nasty words I should consider cancelling my policies, leaving me weird number to find out when and how to cancel. I am trying to get another policy, so why would I want to cancel that I had for so long!! I called Northwestern Mutual to report the incident. John from management office return my call very quickly. 0 star for Dennis and 5 stars for John Adding review 1/15/2020 for Amber Gholson. She is not my representative. She helped me with matters that wasn't her responsibility. But she took many of her times to resolve the issues. Very good professionalism and real gem nowadays. Highly recommend her. Absolute 5 stars for Amber.

I was less educated (still know little about investing) and more eager to really prepare my retirement. I ended up buying a whole life (mixed with term) and a market account. After a few months I started to learn more about mutual funds and fees. I realized they selected a fee with a 5.75% front load, a high expense ratio, and a 12-b-1 fee. I would have been better letting the cash grow in the bank till the account had enough to buy a quality fund, but thats not how NWM makes money I guess. I was also sold the Whole Life Ins (WL) plan under the assumption that it was going to be my tax free alternative to my maxed 401k. I ended up questioning the whole thing after finding out how bad the fees were on the market account. After paying a Fiduciary a flat hourly rate for advise, I decided to call the WL a loss too. All in all I was lucky to catch it early, 3k lost in the WL and a loser market account. I guess Im more upset that they did not tell me about the front load 5% market account, I was told it was 1% of value. I cant see how I would have ever made my market account grow with a 5% loss of the back as well as the on going fees. Also I canceled my Term life with NWM and found a price about %20 lower by shopping around.
They are not bad people but for a simple game plan like mine, you are better of learning yourself or trying betterment. I believe I was guided in the wrong direction to benefit NWM.
