I read the reviews about how closing your account than receiving check from the bank takes forever, and made me really nervous when CD maturity date was getting closer. However, everything went smoothly and only took 2 business days to receive my check. Only thing was hold time for a call is more than 20 mins but other than that, no issues here. Great bank!

I have used many banks for various reasons and products in this country but CFG is by far the worst in many aspects. Their customer service and customer orientation is catastrophic with unbelievable lack of diligence, inefficiency and unnecessarily complicated processes that are beyond customer unfriendly. Wait times are incredibly long and you will be transferred from one incompetent person to the other and in the end you will NOT be helped. Closing your CD is a nightmare and designed to make it difficult for customers on purpose so they can renew your account at a poor rate. Terrible business practice. Please don't make that mistake and work with this bank. Read the other devastating reviews - all true !! Don't fall for any pointless white-washing they do.

This has been the most frustrating bank I’ve ever dealt with. They fail to respond to emails, and there's a 15-minute wait just to speak with someone on the phone. If you're considering using them as an online bank for a certificate of deposit, be prepared for a tough experience getting your money back. As someone with millions of dollars spread across multiple banks, I’ve never encountered such poor service.

Update; after reading your response I have tried to contact you via the email you provided and still no reply whatsoever. Unbelievable.

Called CFG bank to renew my cd for a different term, also to send the earned interest to my savings account. Well, two weeks later, no money sent to savings and my cd was renewed to the same term as the original. Called the bank again and got the we’re sorry, someone dropped the ball story. Not everyone is good at their job. Also have a Capital One cd, and they are on top of their game.
Edit… Cfg have resolved the issue. Apparently they had an incorrect account number, all is well.

It has been over a month since I have closed my account and still no check with my account funds. They claim they mailed it certified mail. Ive called several times to obtain status and resolve. I keep getting different stories. One person told me they usually don’t send it certified. Another clerk says they always send certified otherwise I would need to pay a fee for fedex or to electronically route it to my savings. When i asked if they could waive the fee and electronically route it or fedex the check since it has been well over a month they refused. I was told since they mailed the check certified and it was not picked up at my post office it was not their fault. Highly unlikely since I never received any kind of notice that any certified mail had attempted delivery. I am highly concerned with how this has been handled and their unwillingness to even attempt to help expedite / waive / eat the cost of their fees to return my money. At this point, you figure they would try and make things right and give me back my money. They are too concerned with trying to suck out every last fee they can grab at. I would never recommend this bank due to their lack of responsiveness and unwillingness to act in a timely manner to provide resolution.

This company is pure trash. We have a family member with life insurance with CFG, same issues as the banking customers. Say they mailed items but they never arrive. Customer service is non existent wait hours on hold, they would not allow emailing documents or scanning in via computer has to be fax(who uses fax these days) or snail mail. It is like they are stuck in the 80s and 90s.

***Update 9/27/2024 Kudos to CFG Bank. The 13 money market account funds have been transferred to my external account.
Did mail transfer forms, doubt they could have already arrived,

This is the way business is supposed to operate, hope this is a trend.

Trying to close money market accts. They could not read the 13 email withdrawl forms, so nothing done. Trying snail mail, know hard to get $'s out from past reviews.

My CD had reached its maturity date and I wanted to close it and get my funds back. I was offered the option of having a check mailed to me or having it wired to me at a cost (which would have made going with the CFG’s higher APY pointless.. may as well have gone with a bank with better service and a slightly lower APY.)

I opted for the mailed check option. The rep I spoke to told me I would receive the tracking number. Days went by and I never heard anything, so I logged into my online account and saw that I no longer had any accounts open. But I never received any kind of notification of confirmation that my account had been closed or that a check had been sent, and certainly nothing about a tracking number. I’ve called 3 times about a tracking number; it takes about 20-30 minutes just to get your call answered every time. The first time, after being put on hold for a long time (in addition to the initial hold time just trying to get through) I was told the department with the tracking number was closed and that they would call me the next day at 9 am. Didn’t happen. The next time I called, I was put on hold for a long time again and then given the tracking #. I looked it up after the call and it didn’t pull anything up. So I called back and confirmed the tracking number with a different rep. They said it’s what they have on file and that maybe one of their employees entered it in wrong on their end. It was supposedly sent 6 business days ago so the tracking number should be in USPS’s system. I also expressed concern to this rep that I didn’t receive any kind of confirmation with tracking # and she I wouldn’t have unless I paid for FedEx. This wasn’t even offered as an option. She also told me it was sent certified with a signature confirmation required, which is great but I would have appreciated a heads up on this. How can I know to be there for the signature if I wasn’t told about it or given any kind of tracking information?

Between the lack of any kind of confirmation about my CD being closed, the lack of a tracking number I was told I would receive, and the tracking number being incorrect, I am now VERY concerned about the competency and legitimacy of this bank and the amount of my money they have in their possession has me incredibly stressed. I wish I read these reviews first. If I could do it all over again, I would have just put the funds in my HYSA and called it a day. The CD rates here are not worth the stress. I bank with a small credit union and their customer service is great, easy to contact, and they automate notifications/confirmations for everything. I should not have to work this hard (hours of my time so far) to figure out what happened to my money that I put in the responsibility of CFG. The lack of communication from this bank is completely unacceptable. Please learn from my mistake and avoid at all costs.
