I recently opened a HELOC with Bellco credit union, attracted by their promise of a 6.99% fixed-rate loan. After completing the paperwork and drawing funds seven months later, I was shocked to find that my loan had been converted to a variable rate at 7.99%. Bellco claimed the 'special offer' was no longer available.

While this might have been buried in the fine print of the contract, it was never communicated to me during the application process or at closing. Such a bait-and-switch tactic is both unethical and unacceptable. Customers trust financial institutions to honor their commitments, not to change terms after the fact.

I strongly urge others to exercise caution when considering Bellco. Based on my experience, this company lacks transparency and integrity.

Definitely understand the reason for this branch's rating. I came to this beach to get assistance with a time sensitive matter. I was met with condescending tones and quite honestly, blatant discrimination. There's absolutely no diversity when you walk in. Little did the teller who "assisted me" know, I was there to also test the customer service directly to see whether I was going to move substantial accounts to Bellco. Safe to say, that's not going to happen. Word of advice to branch management: get a more inviting and diverse staff while also practicing customer service that does NOT "judge a book by its cover."

Tyler was a great help opening an account. Very fast and informative. Thank you!!! I have had Bellco as my credit union for a long time and always had great experiences with them. I would recommend Bellco to everyone.

Just on reviews alone, which looked terrible. I won’t be doing business with Belco. I wanted to refinance my vehicle, but Sounds like customer service is terrible so off to another credit union for me. Thanks for the reviews folks.

After disputing unauthorized charges to my BellCo debit card, I was told that there was an "internal input error" on BellCo's part resulting in declining my dispute. After acknowledging that error on their part, they told me it was not possible to reopen the dispute, or file another one. Just to hammer that home - they made that error, even after repeated attempts on my part to provide accurate details and documentation regarding the disputed amounts. They have admitted the error was on their part, not mine. The result is that I am now out thousands of dollars (yes, thousands) for charges that were never substantiated. The BellCo representative I spoke with "apologized" and assured me they would be conducting "internal coaching" to prevent this in the future, but there was nothing further BellCo could or would do to defend my interests. I've been a BellCo member for several years with multiple accounts, and they will do absolutely nothing to protect my financial interests. I will be terminating my membership with BellCo in the near future. There are plenty of other credit unions that do care about their members, and that will defend their member's financial interests. I will be joining one of them soon. I encourage anyone reading this to do your homework before choosing a credit union. There are far better options out there.

Update. After seeing this review, BellCo reached out to me to try to convince me they did nothing wrong. They did admit they didn’t do everything right, though. They also insisted they would be “coaching” their employees that screwed things up in the first place, to avoid future “confusion, but they’re not going to do anything for me. They just can’t admit being “wrong ”. They are truly pathetic. I encourage folks to read several reviews for more enlightenment. Lots of other options out there.

They don't have notary services available and they said they couldn't change my name on my account in office. I'd have to send it in by mail. Not sure why after waiting in line and standing there will all the paperwork they'd need they couldn't just make a copy and make the change.

Edited: Now, 5 years later they cancelled my credit card on accident and didn’t notify me at all. That could have made for a really awkward restaurant visit (sorry but your card was declined). I asked to close my accounts and they kept me on hold and tried to delay and distract me for 25 minutes all while I’m supposed to be working. This bank was a horrible experience.

Best part of the experience was that I got a helpful person to close my account (the second star is for her specifically!). I "opened" my account online because Bellco offered a great rate on their Blast Checking. I never saw a penny in a year and a half. They immediately wanted to sell me more products and required that I come to a branch to actually open my account or to get my money back out. Then they forgot to send me statements, then they neglected to include both accounts on my statement. Policy is poor, customer service was poor, except for once. Didn't earn a single cent in interest in 18 months. They probably forgot to credit interest. There are plenty of banks online and in physical locations that will work harder for your business.

I’m a premier member with them.
They misquoted me a lease payoff.( I called the lease payoff line )
( their error)
The dealership paid the quoted amount.
Bellco admitted their error. They sent it to investigations , then after a month of back and forth :
They then came back after me for late fees +++
Over $400.
Moral, even if you have over $100,000
In dealings with them, they don’t care.
I will be closing my account(s) and recommend that all do the same.
Buyer beware . Very unhappy.
*Update 01/12/18, the Branch Manager (IN December) admitted their error and refunded my money back to. She again assured me that she was so sorry and the account was paid off and in good standing (No derogatory credit reports as it was put into investigation mode by her). I JUST received my credit report today, and they DID in fact put a 30 days late on my credit profile. I have since filed a complaint with the consumer financial protection bureau. AGAIN, look elsewhere. They have gotten too big and too automated. They have forgotten where they came from and the customer service has gone away. NOT A GOOD PLACE TO TRANSACT BUSINESS !!! Again, buyer beware !!! Look elsewhere for any and all banking needs. No matter what they say, they DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU.
